Call for Abstracts

PRESENTATION TYPES
The aim of the conference is to foster
dialogue and knowledge exchange; therefore the majority of
papers accepted will be in round table and poster presentation
formats. Participants are encouraged to consider one of these
interactive formats for submission of their paper. A smaller
number of papers for oral presentations will also be accepted.
Please rank your preferred presentation format during the
abstract submission process.
(a) ROUND TABLE DIALOGUE
Round table sessions will be 40
minutes in length, in order to allow for sustained dialogue and
depth of knowledge exchange. Each round table will be assigned a
discussant/recorder who will summarize the main points of the
discussion. Presenters will have an opportunity to review and
edit the written summaries and to decide whether or not these
round table records will be included in the conference
proceedings.
(b) POSTERS
Two poster
sessions will take place during the conference: One during the
welcoming reception, and the second during the pre-dinner
reception on day 2. Posters allow presenters to participate in
extended discussion with interested attendees. The purpose of
poster sessions is to allow an opportunity for participants to
share ideas and insights and to interact around topics of
interest.
(c) ORAL
PRESENTATIONS
These
presentations may include scholarly papers, completed research
or innovation related projects. Sessions consist of four 15-minute
presentations, followed by a 5 minute question and answer period
for each speaker, and a 10 minute question period at the end.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Timeline
Call for Abstracts closes
on January 12, 2009. Notice of decision will be
sent in early February 2009.
How to Submit Abstracts
Please submit
your abstract on
the
official abstract web form. You should
see a confirmation notice once you submit the form; if you do not
receive this confirmation please contact the site administrator at:
admin@reflectivepractice.ca.
Preparation of Abstracts
The abstract
should briefly describe the paper to be considered and address each of
the following dimensions: (i) introduction (ii) background and/or
rationale, (iii) methodologies or approach, (iv) results, findings or
potential implications, (v) discussion and conclusions. References are
highly recommended. Scholarly work that is completed or work in
progress is welcome.
Program and
Abstracts of this meeting will be prepared electronically. If you do not
wish to have your abstract published, please check the appropriate box
on the web form. The abstract should be 300-500 words in length without
references, and up to 750 words with references.
CONFERENCE
SUB-THEMES
The conference
has been divided into the following six sub-themes, which are described
in detail on the
Conference Sub-themes page.
(a) Engaging
Reflection through Reflective Practices
(b) Engaging
Reflection through Critically Reflective and Reflexive Practices
(c) Engaging
Reflection through Mentorship and Preceptorship
(d) Engaging
Reflection through Narrative
(e) Engaging
Reflection through the Arts and Humanities
(f) Engaging
Reflection through Ethics Education and Practice
Please indicate
which sub-theme you would categorize your paper under by checking the
appropriate box on the abstract form.
Preparation of Posters
As a general
guideline, it is proposed that posters be prepared so that they are
intelligible in themselves, even in the absence of the authors and
without studying the abstracts. It is suggested that the contents of
each poster be divided into categories. For example: (i) Introduction,
(ii) Background and/or Rationale, (iii) Methodologies or Approach, (iv)
Results, Findings or Implications, (v) Discussion and Conclusions (vi)
References. Sections should be clearly defined with adequate spacing and
good legibility.
The poster
should be readable from a distance of 1-2 meters. The following
letter-size is suggested: headings such as Introduction: 12-16
mm, sub-headings, labeling of figure and tables, no smaller than 5 mm. A
word with the first letter capitalized and the remaining letters in
lower case is easier to read than a WORD all in capital letters.
Adjudication
An abstract
review committee will oversee a review process for each abstract.
Decisions will be based on the following criteria:
·
Quality of the Presentation Content
·
Educational Value
·
Quality of Written Abstract
Proceedings and
Knowledge Translation/Exchange
Accepted
abstracts will be published in the conference proceedings unless
otherwise indicated.
A special edition of
Learning in Health and Social Care
