Welcome
I’m Dr. Heidi Nichilo, a dynamic and results-driven mental health professional with over 18 years of experience in clinical supervision, program management, and consulting. My journey in the field has equipped me with a deep understanding of the challenges and rewards of supporting individuals in their most vulnerable moments.

I believe in the power of reflective practice and clinical supervision to foster resilience, professional growth, and ethical practice. My work is grounded in the principles of collaboration, support, and continuous learning, helping mental health practitioners navigate complex cases while ensuring their well-being.

Whether you’re seeking supervision, training, or guidance on best practices, I am here to support you in your journey. Together, we can create a safe and empowering space for reflection and growth.
My Story
Throughout my career, I have been driven by a passion for mental health and a commitment to supporting those who dedicate their lives to helping others. I hold a Doctor of Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, and a Bachelor of Social Work. As a Registered Social Worker and past president of the Ontario Association of Social Workers, I am deeply committed to the advancement of the profession and the well-being of the communities I serve.

Over the past 18 years, I have had the privilege of working in diverse environments, including community organizations, hospitals, and private practice. Each role has enriched my understanding of the multifaceted nature of mental health care, equipping me with the skills needed to effectively support both clients and practitioners.

As the Director of Mental Health at the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa, I lead initiatives that prioritize youth well-being, focusing on resilience, recovery, and holistic care. My role allows me to not only influence policy and practice but also mentor and support mental health professionals in their work.

Recognizing the emotional toll that this profession can take, especially in the aftermath of client loss, I have dedicated my research and practice to developing effective frameworks for postvention support. My doctoral research culminated in the creation of the Postvention Framework for Clinical Supervisors, which guides supervisors in supporting their supervisees after a client’s suicide. This work reflects my belief that through reflective practice and compassionate supervision, we can foster resilience and healing in the mental health field.

In addition to my clinical leadership, I am an Associate Faculty member at City University of Seattle, where I am committed to advancing academic excellence through innovative teaching and mentoring future professionals in the field. My dedication to integrating research and evidence-based pedagogy ensures that students receive a robust and up-to-date education in mental health.

As a mental health consultant, I strive to create a safe, empowering environment where mental health professionals can grow, reflect, and thrive. I believe that by investing in our own well-being and development, we can better serve our clients and communities.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. Together, we can create meaningful change in the mental health landscape.
